STRIKE: FEMALE STUDENTS THREATEN TO GO NAKED IN SOUTH-EAST
Following the protracted strike embarked upon by lecturers in the South-East state government-owned universities, female students of the universities have decided to go naked in all the state capitals in the region.
The protest, according to the female students, is meant to show their displeasure over the long closure of the universities as a result of disagreement between the state governments and the leadership of the South-East zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the new salary wages for lecturers in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday on behalf of the students and executive committee members, the Secretary General of the National Association of Nigerian Female Students (NANFS), Miss Jemila Audu, noted that the long impasse between the South-East state governments and the (ASUU) had led to the collapse of university education in the geopolitical zone.
Accompanied by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association, Pauline Onyebule, and Anita Igbandu, ex-officio member of the association, Audu said that female students in the South-East geopolitical zone observed that politicians in the zone had neglected substances and had been chasing shadows on the matter at hand.
According to them, the governors of the South-East zone had shown that they had nothing to offer students, who incidentally were the future hope of the country.
“It has become clear that their only interest is to seek ways to manipulate the system and fraudulently secure their second term to continue to deceive their people,” Audu said.
