WEST BROM SEEKS REPLACEMENT FOR OSAZE
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo on Monday admitted he would like to sign a striker in January to help Albion cope better without Osaze Odemwingie.
The Nigeria international on Monday began a race against time to be fit for Sunday‘s Black Country showdown with Wolves after missing Saturday‘s defeat at Villa with groin injury.
And Di Matteo confirmed he was keen to add another forward option to his squad in the January transfer window.
”It‘s a very good idea but it‘s easier said than done to find a goal scoring striker,” Di Matteo told Express & Star on Monday. ”The whole Premier League is after one but we are absolutely looking at that.”
Saturday‘s defeat at Villa Park means the Baggies have now collected just four points in the matches Odemwingie has not started, compared with 18 points from the leading scorer‘s 11 starts.
And Di Matteo said: ”Somen Tchoyi was a bit unlucky when he hit the crossbar on Saturday with a great effort and Jerome Thomas put a good crosses in. But we know we missed a bit of a cutting edge.
”With all due respect to the players who played, when Odemwingie is missing we miss a bit of a goal threat.”
Odemwingie‘s groin injury setback came last week as he continued to be nursed back from a niggling knee problem, and he is far from certain to recover in time for Sunday.
